The fixed monthly amount paid by a borrower to repay a loan. Each EMI includes both principal repayment and interest.

Principal Amount

The original amount borrowed from the lender before interest and other applicable charges.

Loan Tenure

The total period over which a borrower repays the loan.

Credit Score

Processing Fee

Personal Loan

Loan Against Property

A secured loan where residential or commercial property is pledged as collateral to raise funds.

Working Capital

Funds used to meet a business's day-to-day operational expenses such as inventory, salaries, and supplier payments.

MSME Loan

Credit facilities designed for micro, small, and medium enterprises, often with tailored eligibility norms.

Secured Loan

A loan backed by collateral such as property, machinery, or other assets pledged with the lender.

Unsecured Loan

A loan granted without collateral, based mainly on income, credit profile, and repayment capacity.

Fixed Interest Rate

An interest rate that stays the same for the agreed period, keeping EMIs predictable.

Floating Interest Rate

An interest rate linked to a benchmark that can move up or down, changing the EMI or tenure.

Moratorium

A lender-approved period during which repayment of the loan may be deferred, subject to terms.

Foreclosure

Closing a loan fully before the scheduled end of its tenure, subject to lender charges and policies.

Prepayment

Paying an amount over and above the scheduled EMI to reduce the outstanding principal.

Co-Applicant

A person who applies for the loan jointly with the borrower and shares repayment responsibility.

Guarantor

A person who agrees to repay the loan if the primary borrower is unable to meet the obligation.

Loan Sanction

The lender's formal approval of a loan, specifying the amount, rate, tenure, and conditions.

Loan Disbursal

The release of the sanctioned loan amount to the borrower or a designated party.

Debt Consolidation

Combining multiple debts into a single loan to simplify repayment and potentially reduce overall cost.

An 11-character code identifying a specific bank branch for electronic fund transfers in India.

NEFT

National Electronic Funds Transfer — an electronic transfer system that settles payments between banks.

RTGS

Real Time Gross Settlement — a system for high-value fund transfers settled individually and in real time.

IMPS

Immediate Payment Service — an instant interbank transfer service available round the clock.

UPI

Unified Payments Interface — a real-time payment system enabling transfers using a virtual payment address.

Bank Statement

A record of transactions in an account over a period, often required for loan assessment.

KYC

Know Your Customer — the verification process using identity and address documents before availing financial services.

Nominee

The person designated to receive the benefits of an account or policy in the event of the holder's death.

Standing Instruction

An automated instruction to a bank to make recurring payments such as EMIs on set dates.

Balance Sheet

Purchase Order Financing

Funding used to fulfil confirmed customer purchase orders before payment is received.

Machinery Finance

Trade Credit

Accounts Receivable

Waiting Period

Cashless Claim

A claim settled directly between the insurer and a network provider, without upfront payment by the insured.
